Last Fire- Farewell to a Friend
On Saturday, August 26th, all are cordially invited to honor long time Scouter, Bill Kamberg for a "last fire" at the Amphitheater at Camp Mitigwa. On this day, some of Bill's ashes will be cast into the fire as he wished. Camp Mitigwa was a very special place for Bill, and he asked that some of his ashes be placed at camp. Bill loved the Amphitheater so it seems the most appropriate place to cast his ashes, in a place at camp that he enjoyed very much. The Chippewa campsite, close to the amphitheater, was Bill’s favorite campsite at Camp Mitigwa. Individuals who come for the ceremony are invited to camp overnight in the Chippewa campsite with Troop 61, if they would wish. The "last fire" program will start at 7 PM.
2017 Wood Badge Course

The Wood Badge course is only offered every two years and the training team is dedicated to providing you with the highest quality BSA training and personal growth experiences, using Mitigwa Scout Reservation as our base. Click here for more information. Only 14 spots left, they are going fast!
Commissioner's Communication
Cabinet Meeting with Cookout
The next commissioner cabinet meeting will be Tuesday, August 22, at the Maytag Service Center. Prior to the meeting, there will be a cookout. Meat will be provided and all commissioners are asked to bring a dessert or side dish to share. Cookout begins at 6:00 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.
Introducing the New Member Coordinator Position
Sustaining strong membership, in a unit, depends not only on having new members join the unit, but also on engaging youth and their families in the unit experiences so they feel welcomed and want to stay. The role of the New Member Coordinator is to ensure that both keys to success take place. The Welcome Training Video on my.scoutin.org is sufficient for the volunteer in this position to get started. Additional detailed training on Sharing the Benefits, Coordinating Recruitment, and the Joining and Welcoming Process, will be available soon.

The Mid-Iowa Council Volunteer Corps group is looking for a few people that could help out doing small office tasks for 2-3 hours at a time. These individuals get on a schedule once or twice a month and work with our office staff on special projects. Most of this work is sitting down at a desk, no heavy lifting. If you are retired or know someone that has time during the day, we could use the help. Thanks.
