BeAScout Unit Pin Update Instructions
BeAScout “Recruiting on the Web”
Put Scouting on the map with BeAScout.org. BeAScout.org uses the Web and Google Maps to recruit new members. Packs, troops, and crews will appear as “pins” on Google maps nation-wide. The web site is very easy to remember: www.beascout.org.
BeAScout is easy as 1‐2‐3
1. Unit leaders publish information about their unit to a pin icon on a Google Map through www.my.scouting.org.
2. Parents go to www.beascout.org, submit their address, find units in their neighborhood and can even apply online to join.
3. Leaders gather information from visits to their pins and compile “leads and applications” that they can manage through www.my.scouting.org.

Council Philmont Expeditions 2017 & 2018
The Mid-Iowa Council Philmont Contingent has several opportunities available for the 2017 season, as well as the summer of 2018.
Recent contact with our chartered bus company revealed that we have the option to add additional Scouts to our 2017 roster due to a larger than expected bus size. If you have Scouts who love the outdoors and would enjoy the adventure of a ten day backpacking trip in the mountains of New Mexico, please share this opportunity with them. We will get them all the information they need. Our 2018 Expedition to Philmont is also filling quickly.
Philmont has often been described by Scouts and adult advisors as “one of the highlights of my life”. Do not let your Scout(s) miss out on a chance to put their hard earned Scouting Skills into practice. All it will take is an e-mail or phone call. We will take it from there! We can arrange local promotions if you wish.
NEW HIGH ADVENTURE RESOURCE TABLE
We have added a table in the lobby of the Maytag Scout Center that is full of resources for High Adventure opportunities!
Info is available on all of the BSA’s National High Adventure Bases, Philmont Training Center (a great family vacation opportunity), Swamp Base, and some regional opportunities!
Check it out the next time you are in the Maytag Scout Center, then plan your next HIGH ADVENTURE!

Introducing the New Member Coordinator Position
Sustaining strong membership in a unit depends not only on having new members join the unit, but also on engaging youth and their families in the unit experiences so they feel Welcomed and want to stay. The role of the New Member Coordinator is to ensure that both keys to success take place. The Welcome Training Video on my.scouting is sufficient for the volunteer in this position to get started. Additional detailed training on Sharing the Benefits, Coordinating Recruitment and the Joining and Welcoming Process will be available soon.

The Mid-Iowa Council Volunteer Corps group is looking for a few people that could help out doing small office tasks for 2-3 hours at a time. These individuals get on a schedule once or twice a month and work with our office staff on special projects. Most of this work is sitting down at a desk, no heavy lifting. If you are retired or know someone that has time during the day, we could use the help. Thanks.
